Tom Wertzberger AIA

As a project architect, Tom has been involved in all phases of design, detailing, cost estimating, and in the preparation of specifications, contract documents, and construction drawings. Projects in which Tom has been involved include; hospitality, municipal, health care, educational, recreational, commercial, and industrial facilities, as well as the historical renovation of hotels, museums, libraries, national landmarks, and handicap accessibility.

His duties have also included project management experience working with owners and their representatives from project start to finish, and construction administration duties for many of his projects.

About Tom

Projects that the firm of Wertzberger Architects have been responsible for include; many projects for Boulders Inn and Suites, HCI Construction, numerous renovations at the Best Western Inn of Marshalltown, the design of the Comfort Inn of Marshalltown, conversion design for the new Super Eight Motel, of Marshalltown, numerous Main Street Façade Improvements, multiple projects for the Meskwaki Bingo, Casino, Hotel in Tama, Iowa, the South Branch Facility for Wells Fargo in Marshalltown, the Racom Headquarters building in Marshalltown, remodeling of the MAX building in Marshalltown, several projects for the Marshalltown, Medical and Surgical Center, Lakeside Condominiums of Marshalltown, the Salvation Army expansion in Marshalltown, and many other projects located in central Iowa and surrounding states. Tom also has experience working on several projects as the Owner’s representative on a multi-site development in Latin America.

Prior to starting the firm of Wertzberger Architects, PC., Tom was a partner in the firm of Johnston Wertzberger, Architects and Planners. Prior to Johnston Wertzberger, Tom was responsible for all architectural projects of the Iowa offices of George Butler Associates, a large Architectural and Engineering firm headquartered in Kansas City, Mo.

Before Tom joined George Butler Associates, he was responsible for architecture and planning for in-park facilities at Six Flags Over Mid-America in Eureka, Missouri. These facilities included restaurants and food service operations, retail shops, public facilities, and operations and maintenance facilities. While with Six Flags, Tom served as project manager responsible for coordinating the design and construction of a $35 million renovation of the art deco-styled S.S. Admiral, a St. Louis riverfront landmark.

Tom Wertzberger earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and is a registered architect in the States of Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Missouri. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Iowa Chapter of AIA. He has also served 15 years on the Marshall County Board of Review.
